First things first, what is quinoa. Quinoa is actually an anicient seed related to the spinach family that has been harvested for over 5000 years since the time of the Incas. When cooked quinoa is light, fluffy, and slightly crunchy much like a grain.
Nutritionally quinoa is known as a "super grain" as it contains complete protein, all 9 essential amino acids. Compared to other grains quinoa is higher in calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, iron and copper.
So, we get it, it is super healthy. But how can it be used in cooking? Well for starters we like to toss it in with our rice in the rice cooker to make that white rice of ours infinitely healthier. We also love adding it to soups to make them even more nutritious, as well as to stir fries as well for the same reason. One last way we love to eat quinoa is as a salad topping, or even as the base of a salad. You can even add cooked quinoa into baking to make it infinitely better for you.
